Playing By Ear

Discover the knack of playing without sheet music! The ability to ‘play by ear’ means you can play pretty much anything without needing to search for the music and then stare fixedly at it while you play. It’s a particularly good skill to have if you want to join in with a session or attend a style/technique workshop run by a musician you like!

There are two options for these workshops:

  • How to properly learn a tune by ear – aka the ‘I have plenty of time and friendly neighbours’ method, or
  • How to join in instantly with tunes you don’t know – something Alison fondly calls “how to blag it” and which makes music sessions a lot more fun

All participants must already be able to play a few basic tunes on their instrument (with sheet music is fine). Best for ages 11 upwards.

These workshops are designed for festivals and communities but one-to-one lessons can also be arranged.

Please contact Alison to discuss your requirements.
